HISTORY OF CAST IRON
The history of cast iron dates back to the 1800's. Early manufacturers did not put trademarks or company logos on their items; but are sometimes identified by the "gatemarks" on their cookware. Later, companies began putting part numbers and logos onto their line of goods. Manufacturers also made secondary lines for hardware stores or retailers such as Montgomery Wards. Those lines had their own logos and trademarks. Many people have "heirloom" pans that have been handed down for generations. These pans have a wonderful history and are cherished by their owners. We are vintage enthusiasts and prefer to collect and use the older cast iron. Just a note: the older cast iron is typically lighter in weight that the new cast iron pans.
